Stainless Steel as Whole New Thing

Hello jewelry enthusiasts. We have been receiving lots of questions lately about our preferred material: The stainless steel. Is it really stainless? How come you have experienced allergies with some pieces but rather have had a different experience with many others? How durable is it compared to other materials? We know, we know… You guys are excited to hear our opinion on it. So, let us get to it, shall we?

Stainless steel is a family of iron-based alloy, which means that it is a combination of different metals. These metals are usually the ones that provide different qualities to the alloy and depending of the concentration of each, you would have then a wide array of stainless-steel derived categories.

Resistance to corrosion and staining, low maintenance and familiar luster make Stainless Steel and ideal material for many applications, being jewelry a common one. It is important to mention that authentic stainless steel is always resistant to corrosion. Remember that the only way of making sure that you are getting the most bang for your buck is buying stainless steel from an authorized retailer as MIS-JEWELRY.

Most of the merchandise offered in our store is either 304 or 316 Stainless steel. The difference between these two is the concentration of Molybdenum in the latter which results in grade 316 increased corrosion resistance.

Other common application of 316 stainless steel include refinery equipment & medical devices. There are many other types of stainless steel, like the 200, 400, 500 and 600 series but those are not pertinent to our use. Maybe if you drop us some comments we will return to this topic.

In our case, we here at MIS-JEWELRY we appreciate the advantages of how low maintenance this material can be; being extremely resistant to wear and abrasion, how long lasting it can be and how recyclable it is; stainless steel is 100% recyclable and has a very carbon footprint. Recycling stainless steel just in the United States of America saves enough energy to power about 18 million households for a year. The best day to start caring about the environment is today.

We hope to see you all back in our blog. Happy day and happy shopping,

The MIS-JEWELRY Team
